Support the Humane Cosmetics Act
Take 5 to end cosmetics testing on animals in the United States
Take 5 for Cruelty Free Cosmetics
Can you give 5 minutes to help end cosmetic testing on animals?
Calling or writing to legislators is one of the most effective means of communicating your views with elected officials. We need as many legislators as possible to support the Humane Cosmetics Act. So we’ve put together this quick guide to help you communicate with your US elected officials effectively about cosmetics testing on animals.
And it will only take 5 minutes.
Never doubt that your message is important. For each person who takes 5 minutes to communicate their view with the legislator, he or she assumes that there many others who feel the same way. Crucially, this helps shape the legislator’s position on an issue.
Communicating with legislators takes time.
But while petitions and instant e-mail drives can be effective, by far the most effective communication is a phone call or an individually sent message that includes personalized information about why the issue is important to you.
Take Action – Call or write your US Representative and ask them to support the Humane Cosmetics Act.
Cruelty Free International has created this aid to help you effectively communicate with your elected official in under 5 minutes with just 5 simple steps. Seriously - it will only take 5 minutes to write or call your US elected officials!

Dear [insert your Representative name],
I am writing to urge you to co-sponsor the Humane Cosmetics Act which will phase out animal testing for cosmetics in the United States. This is a common sense bill that will benefit industry, consumers, and animals.
In the last 20 years cosmetics companies have reduced their use of animals for cosmetics testing in favor of modern non-animal alternatives that are often cheaper, faster and more predictive for humans. Polls show that the American public overwhelmingly supports alternatives to testing cosmetics on animals and that a majority believe that testing cosmetics on animals is unethical.
The European Union has been phasing out animal testing since 2003, and in 2013, a complete ban on the testing and marketing of animal-tested cosmetics and ingredients went into effect. As well as Europe, Israel and India now have bans in place while New Zealand, Brazil, South Korea, and Vietnam are also making strides toward ending cosmetics testing on animals.
The Humane Cosmetics Act provides a perfect opportunity for the US to catch up with the rest of the world and to ensure modern, humane alternative tests are at the heart of ensuring U.S. consumers' safety.
For more information on this issue contact Cruelty Free International – the global organization that ushered in the changes in the European Union and is working to end animal testing for cosmetic and consumer products around the world – at USA@crueltyfreeinternational.org.
Thank you for your consideration.
