After 150 years, no more delay!

On 15 August 2026, marks 150 years since the Cruelty to Animals Act (1876) became the first law in the world to regulate the use of animals in science.
The Act was won through determined campaigning and established the principle that animal suffering in laboratories matters. But 150 years later, animal testing continues.

In November 2025, the Government published its strategy for replacing animals in science. We recently published analysis which shows that deadlines on key commitments are in danger of being missed. Now it is time to step up our actions.

EDM 780 marks this historic anniversary and calls for renewed government action to speed up implementation of the UK’s replacement strategy.

Take Action Today: It only takes a few minutes to email your MP and ask them to sign the EDM today. Together, we can send a clear message: after 150 years, animals cannot be asked to wait any longer.
