We meet Indian officials to discuss replacing use of dogs in testing
Last week our science team attended a meeting organised by the Environment Ministry in India to discuss animal testing. Dr Jarrod Bailey, Senior Research Scientist at Cruelty Free International, took part in a panel with government scientists and pharmaceutical industry decision-makers to discuss animal tests for medicines and chemicals.
The conference was a chance for Indian officials to review the level of animal suffering in research and think up ideas for reducing the use of animals in tests. On your behalf we spoke with Indian government and pharmaceutical industry representatives to explain why experiments on animals and specifically dogs cannot be justified ethically or scientifically.
Jarrod shared our ground-breaking research funded by your kind donations which shows why testing drugs meant for humans on dogs doesn’t work.
Dr Jarrod Bailey, Senior Research Scientist at Cruelty Free International, says: “Every year millions of animals across the world are forced to suffer in experiments, include the testing of chemicals and new drugs on dogs for humans. Evidence shows that testing on these loving family members isn’t an effective way to develop human medicines and ascertain human risk. The availability of more effective alternatives is also growing. There is absolutely no need for this horrific suffering to continue. We’ll be doing everything we can to convince Indian decision-makers to do the right thing for animals.
