We support the end of animal tested cosmetics in Nevada

We are delighted to back the Nevada Cruelty Free Cosmetics Act, which will prohibit the sale of new animal tested cosmetics in the state from 2020.

The Bill was introduced last week by Senator Melanie Scheible who said: “Compassion calls for eliminating testing on animals. Nevadans can be proud of a policy that requires cosmetics companies to phase out animal testing to continue doing business here”.

We have worked in In the U.S. at national level to advance the Humane Cosmetics Act and in 2014 we were the first organization to work with state lawmakers on this issue. New bills have been introduced in several U.S. states and in September 2018 the California Cruelty Free Cosmetics Act was signed into law, supported by industry, consumers and animal protection organizations.

Monica Engebretson, our North America Campaign manager, said: “Hundreds of successful cosmetics companies of all sizes now rely on non-animal testing methods and support globally consistent rules on this issue. With SB 197, Nevada can be one of the first states to match global progress and create a cruelty free cosmetics market for its citizens”.

If you live in Nevada, you can help by writing to your State Senator and asking them to support Bill SB 197.
