Animal advocate passes away
We are sad to report on the death of Joan Court at the age of 97.
Joan was an inspirational and tireless advocate who campaigned against injustices to both animals and people. Her early career was spent working as a midwife and social worker helping poor and vulnerable people around the world, including in India.
In 1978, Joan started campaigning for animals and spent the next few decades fighting to end their abuse and exploitation. She was a long-time supporter of Animal Aid and Cruelty Free International. She was well known for her campaign work with Sue Hughes and Pat Griffin as part of the Cambridge Animal Rights group.
In 2002, we were delighted to present Joan with the Lord Houghton Award in recognition of her service and contribution to animal welfare.
